Traders of foodstuff at Birni Kudu, in Bakin Dogo axis of Kaduna Central Market, who lost their goods to midnight fire, have appealed to State Government and well-meaning individuals to come to their rescue.

There was a midnight fire which burned down about 45 back-to-back shops in the wee hours of yesterday, according to officials of Kaduna State Fire Services.

The affected shops, said to have been built in the 1970’s, were stocked with assorted foodstuffs including yam flour, cassava flour, guinea corn and other grains.

A lady, simply identified as Aisha, who claimed to have lost four shops belonging to her mother said “the whole thing happened so fast. It was one of the guards who called us this morning to inform us of this unfortunate incident.

“We are appealing to the state government and other spirited individuals to come to our aid. We have lost everything we had worked for to this fire. All we need now is help.

However, when contacted, Director, Kaduna State Fire Services, Paul Fidelis Aboi, said, his team of fire fighters responded to the distress call within two minutes.

“As at now, we are still investigating the immediate cause of the fire.

“But, the season in which we are, harmattan, is partly responsible for fire outbreak. We rely 100 percent on emergency calls or people running to our offices to lay complaints,” he added.
