Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has approved the appointment of Mrs. Aisha Bello Muhammad as the new Accountant General.
A statement signed by the State Commissioner of Information, Youths and Sports, Malam Muhammad Garba said Mrs. Aisha’s appointment takes immediate effect .
Before her appointment, Mrs. Muhammad was the Commissioner for Budget and Planning. She is married with children.
The erstwhile Acting Accountant General, Alhaji Ibrahim A M Kura is to return to his former position as Director, Treasury, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the state government has pledged to recruit more medical doctors and allied personnel to facilitate delivery of more efficient health care services.
Governor Ganduje disclosed this during the commissioning of the renovated and upgraded Dambatta General Hospital in the state.
The project was renovated under the 2012 MDGs – Conditional Grant Scheme state track projects.
He acknowledged that the health sector in the state was understaffed but stressed that there were on- going efforts to improve the situation so that the congestion often witnessed at major hospitals in the state capital would be reduced.
The governor also stated that funds would soon be released for procurement of specialised medical equipment and facilities to make services in the public hospitals affordable and of good quality.
Ganduje revealed that the abandoned hospital projects, including the hospital on Giginyu and Zoo Road were being pursued with vigour to ensure their speedy completion.
He said  his administration was committed to the attainment of all the Sustainable Development Goals as endorsed by the United Nations.
Commissioners of Health, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso explained that the state government has designated eight hospitals including that of Dambatta, as referral centres as part of efforts to accommodate the teeming population of patients.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad Bello stressed the need for the members of the public to take ownership of such projects after completion.
According to her, this approach will go a long way in facilitating their sustainability.
