The Katsina command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated a total sum of about N179.2 million in customs duties for November 2022, according to the Area Commander, Chedi Wada.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Wada said that the figure was about N58 million increase from the command’s N12.8 million earlier collected in October, representing an increase of about 48 per cent.
He said that men of the command also seized various smuggled items including vehicles with total duty paid value of N119.2 million within the period.
He said that four suspects were arrested and granted administrative bail in connection with the seizures pending conclusion of investigations.
According to Chedi, “the successes recorded within the period under review are attributed to the resilience and commitment of the officers and men of the command, working with effective synergy existing among sister security agencies who have shown exceptional professionalism in discharging their duties in line with the extant laws and regulations of government.
“I call on the good people of Katsina State and the business community to take advantage of the reopened Jibia border to conduct their trans-border businesses and also remind them that the remaining borders are still closed.”
