Katsina State government has announced its decision to establish a teaching hospital for its Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari said the development became necessary due to the absence of a reference hospital in the state as residents had to seek  certain medical attention at the Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital in Zaria, Kano and the neighbouring Niger Republic.
Masari who spoke at a town hall meeting in Katsina at the weekend said the project expected to be completed in the next three years would also serve as training centre for healthcare personnel required in other health facilities in parts of the state.
Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Mariatu Usman, said government would from this week begin the issuance of  employment letters to 530 health workers  across 17 cadres of the health sector in the state.
“I’ve have successfully completed a transparent merit-based recruitment exercise, and this is an unprecedented  achievement  that will go a long way in improving service delivery at the general hospitals where they will be deployed across the state,” he said.
