Agaju Madugba, Katsina
The Katsina State All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in last Saturday’s governorship election, Governor Aminu, Bello Masari, has soared to victory, beating the main opposition candidate, Yakubu, Garba Lado, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with monumental margins across all the 34 local government areas of the state.
According to the INEC Returning Officer for the governorship poll, Prof. Abdullahi Abdulmumini, of the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, who announced the results in the early hours of Monday, the APC polled a staggering total of 1,178,864 votes, to beat PDP which received a total of 488,621 votes.
The results also showed that President Muhammadu Buhari successfully delivered Daura to the APC where the party got 31,361 votes against PDP’s 8,296 votes.
APC did not concede defeat in any of the local government areas even as it trashed the PDP in Lado’s Kankara local government with 43,341 votes against 23,856 votes.
Dutsi, the home local government of the Katsina PDP Chairman and deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Salisu Majigiri, also lost to APC.
The APC also received the highest number of votes of 58,148 from Masari’s Kafur local government area where the PDP polled 22,792.
But the PDP has since described the results as unacceptable. “On behalf of the PDP and its governorship candidate, I hereby announce our resolve to reject the results,” Majigiri told reporters at the INEC office on Sunday evening, while the reports were still being collated from the various local government areas.
According to him, “the results being announced by the INEC do not tally with what we obtained from the polling units.
“It is common knowledge that there was a low turnout of voters in Katsina State during the governorship and House of Assembly elections. So, where did INEC get the outrageous figures they are announcing?”
