The Katsina State command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested a total 412 drug suspects with with a total of 206. 2241 kilogrammes of various illicit drugs between January and June, this year.
Speaking, on Tuesday, on the occasion of commemoration of the  2017 edition of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, the NDLEA Commander, Hajiya Maryam Sani, said that her command prosecuted 34 drug suspects who are currently serving jail terms and that about 95 other cases are at various stages of trial at the Federal High Court.
According to her, “The days of inglorious trade in hard drugs is almost over in Katsina as some of our personnel have received training in new strategies and technology to arrest drug lords.
“Armed with such knowledge, it will cause a major onslaught on drug merchants within the state.”
Sani lamented that a number of students of higher institutions are involved in the use of illicit drugs and related activities.
She urged parents and guardians to monitor activities of their children and wards as part of measures to keep them off bad groups.
The NDLEA displayed various drugs seized from the suspects while students from select secondary schools from across the state received tutorials on the effects of consuming hard drugs at the programme.
