Majority Leader of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Barrister Muh’d Bello Yakubu and wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, have cautioned Nigerians against inciting statements that could cause disunity in the country.
They stated this during the launch of two books: “Traces of the Doer” and “We Are No Longer Human”, at Birnin-Kebbi, on Tuesday.
Yakubu, who expressed concern over the consequences of hate statements in his remark said, “It is a big task on our leaders from the South South, Northern Nigeria to team up to ensure the unity of our country.
“We have no other country than Nigeria. Nowhere to call home except Nigeria. It is a task that must be done”.
Wife of the governor also said that all Nigerians should come together in the interest of the national unity.
Mrs. Bagudu, who commended the efforts of the author of the books to write on violence against women and child abuse, noted that Nigeria leaders should not allow anything that would cause more crisis for women.
She further said that the author has written these books that would boost education sector in the state saying “Kebbi is at the bottom of the table when its come to education.
“Our children lack reading culture. Many of them, instead to utilise internet facilities to improve their education, they are used for immoral acts. We must monitor our children on what they are being using for”.
Earlier, Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Aliero, recommended the books for all schools in the state to promote reading culture among students.
“The books is teaching basic morality of the consequences of maltreatment one’s wife and children. That is why I recommend that the books be adopted in our schools so that at young age,our children may know the consequences of maltreating their family. Respect of family is Paramount in the society.”
