The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of North-West zone for elections, DIG Aminchi S. Baraya has confirmed the deployment of sufficient officers and seven modern boats for elections monitoring in Kebbi State.
The seven boats, it was gathered, were made available by a stakeholder when the newly-deplored Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Mr. Garba, Muhammad Danjuma, demanded additional flying boats for the marine department of the command.
Addressing the rank and file on Friday at the command’s headquarters ahead of Saturday’s election, DIG Baraya warned them against violations of the electoral laws, taking food from politicians and escorting VIPs to the polling units.

Baraya who did not disclose the total number of officers deployed for the election, said “you must carry your food, water and basic necessity of life. Do not eat any food provided for you, eat your own food. And you must ensure you conduct yourselves professionally and carry your duty successfully and unhindered.”
He reminded them that the whole world is focusing on Nigeria including foreign observers, stressing that if they violated electoral laws while on duty, they would have themselves to be blame.
While confirming the receipt of the new flying boats, Mr. Danjuma disclosed that five of them would be conveying INEC staff, corps members and electoral materials across riverine towns in the state while two of the boats would be used to patrol the axis throughout the elections.
He added that about 300 litres of petroleum had been made available for the services of the boats and expressed the command’s readiness to ensure free and fair elections.
