Policemen attached to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Kebbi State have apprehended a man who sneaked into the ceiling of bank with the intention of robbing the financial institution after closing hours.

Bank source said he had planned to remain in the ceiling until the bank closed to customers so he could steal money from the bank.

 The source also told our correspondent that the young man pretended to be a customer of the bank to gain entrance into the bank.

“When he entered the bank he pretended as if he wanted to use the toilet and climbed up to the ceiling,” he said.

It was gathered that one of the cleaners in the bank noticed the slippers he abandoned in the toilet as he was climbing up to the ceiling and the stains on the wall.

“She called the attention of the security men at the bank to it and one of them was asked to go up the ceiling to find out if someone was there. That was how we discovered someone was hiding in the ceiling,” the source said.

It was also gathered that after he was discovered in the ceiling, the bank management called in the police but the man refused to climb down from where he was hiding until the police threatened to shoot him if he failed to climb down.

The Public Relations Officer, Kebbi Police Command, DSP Nafiu Abubakar who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said “the matter is still being investigated by the CID.”
