From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi

The management of the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aliero (KSUSTA) has ordered the students of the institution to immediately resume to school for the rescheduled second semester examination.

The university was closed on February 27 in response to students’ unrest over the alleged killing of a 22-year-old final year student by a mob in Aliero town.

The Registrar of the University, Alhaji Musa Labbo Jega, who confirmed the closure of the school in a statement issued on February 27, had stated: ‘This is to inform all students that the university management has directed the closure of the university indefinitely. Therefore, all students are hereby directed to leave the university with immediate effect.’

While confirming the reopening of the university, the Registrar in a statement issued on March 24, and made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, noted that the decision to reopen the school was reached after the due consultation of the Vice-Chancellor with relevant authorities.

According to him, ‘I write to inform all the students that, after due consultation with relevant authorities, the Vice Chancellor, has on behalf of the University Senate, approved the reopening of the University with immediate effect.

‘In view of the above, the rescheduled Second Semester Examination will continue on Tuesday, 30th March, 2021. Accordingly, all students are directed to visit their University portal page to download letter of undertaking which will be signed by their guardians and submitted to the Heads of Department on resumption.’
