Three senior staff of Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (FETHA), Ebonyi State, who were kidnapped at Ajokuta axis of Kogi-Lokoja Highway, last Thursday, have regained their freedom.

The trio are the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Emeka Onwe Ogah; the Director of Administration in the Hospital, Chief Christopher Ogbu and the
Director of Finance, Mr. Sunday Ugama. They were freed early hours of Sunday.

Daily Sun gathered that the trio were returning from a meeting in Abuja when they were kidnapped. The CMD’s driver was shot by the gunmen.

Though details of how they were freed were yet to be made public, the
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dave Umahi, Emmanuel Uzor, explained
that they regained their freedom in the early hours of today (Sunday).

“The true situation is that the victims have been released. I don’t know whether there were ransom or not but all I know is that the Governor assured their safety release. He was worried on their kidnap and urged security agents to assist to ensure they were released. His Excellency the Governor has absolute confidence in the police and other security agents” he said.

Also, the Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association in the State, Dr Austin Ikwudinma also confirmed the development. He appreciated the state government as well as security agencies for their quick intervention.

“We want to specially thank the government of Ebonyi state for keeping to its promise. We are happy they did what they promised for the release of our colleagues. We want to thank people who showed concern during this trying period”, he said.
