The Enugu State command of the Nigeria Police has announced the arrest of the killers of former orderly to the Enugu State Deputy Governor, Sgt. Helen Sunday, who was shot dead last week.
In a statement issued in Enugu yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed that the suspects were arrested by the anti-kidnap squad of the state command.
The suspects, identified as Emmanuel and Kanu, were reportedly picked up a day after the incident at their various hideouts in Lomalinda, Independence Layout, and Amorji Nike, Abakpa, in Enugu East Local Government Area, after a gun duel, which left the suspects fatally injured.
The police also disclosed that a manhunt for gang members who escaped was on, urging members of the public and hospitals to provide information concerning anyone with wounds suspected to be from bullets.
The statement added that the suspects were reportedly regretting their actions, claiming that their motive was to rob their victims but her resistance forced them to shoot.
The gang, which used a Mercedes Benz car, was reportedly on the prowl that fateful night (9/5/17) at a street off Nike Lake Road in the Trans-Ekulu axis,  Enugu, when they ran into the deceased, who was going home after work, and robbed her of her bag containing her phone and some amount of money.
Her resistance, the robbers claimed, led to her being shot on the head from close range. she died in the hospital later.
