The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State was literally set on fire last weekend, as Kenyan diva, Victoria Kimani, sensational singer, Omawumi and other artistes stormed the campus for an unforgettable concert tagged: Glo Campus Storm, packaged by data grandmasters, Globacom.
Students and staff of the institution as well as residents enjoyed a rare dose of first class entertainment during the show. It was a mix of good music, dance, comedy and pageantry that made the event an evening of classic entertainment.
Victoria Kimani set the ball rolling when she appeared on stage wearing a netted hipster and tank top. The singer engaged the crowd in a manner akin to the American hip hop star, Beyonce. Omawumi’s sensational act with her live band jolted the crowd to their feet. She rendered a blend of Afro-pop and soul in her tracks, If You Ask Me, Belle, You Must Love Me, As I Dey’ and I Go Go. Emotions ran high when she gave out her shoes to one of her fans.
Eme Stephens’ re-enactment of the late Michael Jackson’s electrifying dance steps won him the best dancer prize among other students. MC Gordon’s comic challenge of the winner caused a stir among the crowd who couldn’t stop laughing. Then came the pageantry. A group of 18 male students and 18 female students vied for the position of Glo Campus Data Dude and Diva. The keenly contested pageantry produced Bright Amadi, an ND II Building Technology student as Glo Campus Data Dude and Amarachi Ezenwugo, an HND I Public Administration student as Glo Campus Data Diva.
MI’s performance climaxed the show.
