Femi Esho, the Chairman of Evergreen Musical Company in Shomolu, on Tuesday said that Seun Kuti’s loss at the recent Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, U.S., would spur him on to do greater works.
Esho told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that he was elated that the son of the late Afro-beat legend, Fela Anikulapko Kuti, was recognised at the Grammy.
He said that it was good news to know that Afro-beat music, discovered by the late legend, was still relevant and had been made popular by his sons.
“It makes me proud that the son of the late Afro-beat legend was nominated for the Grammy even though he did not bring home the trophy.
“Fela’s Afro-beat music is second to none and his sons Femi and Seun have taken the right steps to follow his steps as “chips off the old block.”

“This shows that the Afro-beat genre is a force to reckon with and still remains relevant as a mode of transmitting our cultural heritage to the international community,’’ he said.
Esho said that Afro-beat is a slightly difficult genre of music compared to Hip Hop and Rap because it demanded more expertise and concentration from the musician.
“Fela worked extremely hard before he could popularise the music to the whole world.
“It is not music for every Tom, Dick and Harry because Afro-beat music comes from the mind,” he said.
Esho advised upcoming musicians to endeavour to get a role model and learn the ropes for the grammyin order to produce quality songs in future.
“Those who do not train under any kind of leadership would not have good messages to portray in their songs,” he said.
NAN reports that Seun Kuti was nominated for the Grammy for his 2018 released album, ”Black Times”.
He, however, he lost to South Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir.
Femi Kuti, his brother, was nominated four times for his album “No Place For My Dream”, while King Sunny Ade was nominated twice in 1983 and 1988.
