From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

Labour Party candidate for governor in Abia State Dr Alex Otti has said his party will wrest power from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s general election.

Otti made this known in Umuahia while setting up his campaign council which has Hon Nnanna Ngwu and Hon Okey Kanu as Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

Otti, addressing the party faithful at the event said: “After going through the process of being nominated at the local government and state levels, we have been able to harmonize ourselves and have prayerfully set up a team to take over the state”.

He used the occasion to unveil his running mate, Ikechukwu Emetu.

Inaugurating the team, the Archbishop, Umuahia Archdiocese of Methodist Church Nigeria, Chibuzo Raphael Opoko charged the council to carry all along, adding that, “I am not a party man, but father to all party men”.

Okpoko noted that poverty has no religion or ethnicity, hence “all must rise to work so that poverty will be eradicated. All must rise up to take back Nigeria.”

He said it was unfortunate that young Nigerians go to Ukraine to be enlisted to fight in another country because of poverty and said the time has come for people to say no to some of these anomalies.

“The young people have taken the decision that we are no longer waiting to see Nigeria decay. We cannot sit down and see poverty take over the country”, he said.

Two Catholic priests, Rev Fathers David Aguneri and Christian Anokwuru, are on the campaign council.
