The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State Chapter, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of desperation and employing unethical tactics to retain power in the state.

It noted that the recent disruption of continuous voters registration, use of government agencies and hoodlums to intimidate members of the opposition party, defacing PDP banners and posters all indicate that the ruling party is jittery because the people have rejected it.

Making these observations, PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Hakeem Amode, said: “The damage by these hoodlums and government agencies to the opposition billboards and defacing of banners and posters especially of our party PDP is a pointer to the desperation of the APC in the state, which further validates our position that the APC is aware that the people have rejected their governance in the state and their new strategy is to resort to intimidation of the preferred opposition party which our party PDP represents.”

He said thugs loyal to the APC target individuals perceived not to share the idea of the party at the registration centres and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police in the state to call the APC to order.

He further said, “Their choice target of youths and individuals from a certain part of the country is a pointer to the fact that the intention to disenfranchise the people is real and further confirm the fear of the party in Lagos. The PDP finds this act inimical to democracy because it prevents people from having the chance to choose their government. It is important for the people of Lagos to rise above this threat posed by these thugs loyal to the APC, for the party to continue their misrule and intimidation of citizens to achieve their selfish whims and caprices. “We urge everyone to go out and register and we also call on the various security agencies to rise to the occasion by providing adequate cover for INEC officials and everyone willing to exercise their civic rights.”

The PDP urged youths being used to disrupt the voters’ registration exercise to desist from such acts because the APC and those using them do not love them and have no future for them.
