Leaders of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Lagos State chapter, recently visited the rubble of the collapsed building in Ita-Faaji area of Lagos Island, as well as the hospital in Marina, where they offered their condolences to Governor Akinwumi Ambode and the victims of the incident which claimed lives, including pupils of Ohen Nursery and Primary School.

The Igbo socio-cultural organisation was led during the visit by the President, Chief Solomon Ogbonna, who described the accident as a sad moment for all concerned, including the parents of the deceased school children, the school authority and the Lagos State Government. He prayed for the repose of the departed and implored God to console their families.

In his remarks, the Secretary, Chief Everest Ozonwoke, lamented the human losses, particularly, the proprietress of Ohen, Mrs. Esther Ifeanyi, who also died in the unfortunate incident. The visitors appealed to the sate government to ensure the survivors, especially the pupils, are properly rehabilitated and accorded scholarships to be able to continue with their education. The Ohaneze leaders enjoined the education and environment ministries in Lagos to ensure schools are sited only at safe and environmentally harmless locations. They also called for stricter implementation of relevant laws on building construction in the state, to forestall a reoccurrence of collapses due to defects.
