Residents of the Bamishi area of Kuje Abuja have called on the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, to intervene in harassment by land grabbers who allegedly use some police officers to molest and exploit the residents.

The residents, in a petition to the IG, alleged that some powerful people in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were colluding with some land grabbers and a company to disrupt developmental efforts by property owners in the Bamishi Kuje area. The Bamishi II Layout has over 1,500 plots which were designed by eco plan, based on contractual agreement with the FCT authority. Findings  showed that the data is still valid and still existing in AGIS as well. Daily Sun gathered that most of the Bamishi II residents conducted their search both from Ecoplan and AGIS before they ventured into developing their plots of land.

“The Bamishi residents are shocked and confused that at a time when genuine owners have reached advanced stages of development of their allotted plots, without any revocation by the FCT authorities, one of the directors of land administration purportedly issued what is termed Offer of Statutory Right of Occupancy (R-of-O dated 08/03/2021),” the residents said.

Holding their allocation letters and other land documents, the residents said they have no doubt in their minds that the letter by land administration was issued this year and backdated to please some people, including the FCT development control.

“There is fear, tension and apprehension in the Bamishi Kuje area of the FCT as someone is apparently using the FCT development control to forcefully stop all the ongoing site work in the Bamishi II layouts, leading to untold hardship and rising fears of mayhem, if the FCT Police Command does not intervene immediately. Records show that residents got their grant directly from the FCT authority,” the residents claimed.

The residents also confirmed that some powerful land grabbers have been frequently seen lurking around in the area.

“From their actions, it is clear that they have been spying on the level of work by citizens who are struggling to develop their assigned plots of land. They pretend as friends, but unknown to the residents, they harbor an ulterior motive to disrupt the development, peace and tranquility existing in the area.”
