The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), has disclosed that as part of efforts to ensure consumer satisfaction, the agency has recovered N172, 615, 484.59.
General Manager, LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, who made the disclosure at the Lagos Trade fair, also noted that $30,250 was made as compensation and outright refund of payment for returned substandard goods, products and services for various categories of consumers which include Automobiles; Banking and finance; Foods and beverages; Insurance; Tele communication; Manufacturing and General goods.
According to the agency, the information was contained in the its activity and achievement report from 2019 till date.
Solebo also noted that the agency, through its monthly mediation parley with (Discos) Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) recovered for consmers, N28, 464,414 through credit adjustment granted.
“The sum of #7,025.853.33 was also recovered for consumers from Eko Electricity distribution company (EKEDC) as credit adjustment.”
The agency through its mediation seasons received 6,244 complaints, resolved 5,909 complaints, 91 complaints were on referrals while 244 complaints were ongoing. “Different types of complaints on services and goods purchased are forwarded daily to the agency by aggrieved consumers and the agency takes time to investigate, prosecute and settle amicably.”
He said: “As a Lagosian, if you buy any good and discover that it’s defective or you get any services you feel are not up to standard, ensure you come to the agency in Lagos. Do not suffer in silence. We will ensure you get value for your money. We have offices in some local governments like Badagry local government, Obalende LCDA, Bariga LCDA,Ikorodu LCDA and others .
