The doctoral students of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Lagos State University (LASU), who are carrying out their internship in social works, recently embarked on a four-day social work field trip to places in Ogun State.

The PhD students and lecturers made a first stop at the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives. 

The students were welcomed by one of the senior officers of the ministry, Mr. Ayinla Suleiman Adeola. He spoke on behalf of the commissioner on the activities of the ministry.

He said “ The Ministry for Community Development and Cooperative creates associations to have meetings, educate and sensitize the members of the community on what the government is doing. 

“These associations serve as mediators between the Ogun State Government and the community.”

He further explained that they usually hold a citizenship and leadership training event  to train the members of the associations and also invite stakeholders from various sectors to train them.

The students then visited the Nigeria Correctional Service, Borstal Institution, where they put young offenders to correct, rehabilitate, reform and reintegrate them into society and also teach them the right way of behaving. 

After the interaction with the students at the borstal institution, one of the PhD students Segun Agbaje, on behalf of Senator Abiru and other members of the Department of Sociology, donated N1 million to the institution for their education.
