No few than 19 staff of the Lagos State University (LASU) have been dismissed from service for falsification of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) O’ level result which they use to gain employment.
Another reason for the sack of some of the staff which was approved by the Governing Council at its statutory meeting was that they absconded from their duty post.
According to the LASU bulletin from the Centre for Information Public Press Relations (CIPPR) under the vice chancellor’s office, the council considered the report of the senior staff disciplinary committee on various allegations against the workers and approved their dismissal from service.
A breakdown of the list revealed that 15 staff was sacked for falsification of May/June WAEC O’ level results with the oldest claimed result obtained in 1975 and the recent been in 2003.
Four staff were dismissed by the governing council for absconding from duty without authorisation of the university management.
A further breakdown showed that four of those dismissed are from the security unit, four also from Epe campus, one each from works and physical planning, external system, academic planning unit, registrar’s office, bursary, university library, LASUSOC and Faculty of Science.
The dismissal of the 19 staff took effect from different dates 2010 (one), 2013 (three) and of recent 2016 (14) and they are mainly senior staff of the university.
