James Useghan was born and brought up in the ghetto, paradoxically, an oil-producing community in Ondo State, Nigeria.

The story of Useghan clearly highlights the famous zero-to-hero transition. He was raised where one can easily admit he was disadvantaged because the odds were naturally against him. He lived amidst those who could only see now, struggling only to survive each day due to prevalent poverty; those who are in brutal darkness both as a result of lack of education and electricity. Yet with a glimpse of light, and a spark of fire in his heart, he rose resiliently, overcoming the odds and he’s currently on an enviable career trajectory with over 10 years’ experience in the oil and gas sector, adding tremendous value.

Useghan’s strength is not exclusive to the corporate sector; he is a competent youth advocate. He has severally proven to be one in deeds.

To anyone who has followed him closely within the past half-decade, Useghan is a source of inspiration to the youths, a fearless advocate, a passionate leader, and a remarkable organiser.

As the convener of the First Massive Literati (FML), a youth-centered organisation that is focused on stimulating youths’ active participation in governance and equipping them to take strategic leadership positions to positively shape the polity, and with a physical presence in about 25 states of the federation, Useghan is a bridge-builder, an enigma and a visionary who is enthusiastic about the prosperity of young minds in Nigeria.

Howbeit, losing the election has not deterred him, he went ahead to author and published his autobiography titled “The Competent Youth”, where he narrates his life and the election’s story to inspire and motivate youths never to succumb to the challenges of their disadvantages but rise to emerge as a competent youth, both in character and career.
