Chairman, Interim Management Committee (IMC), Kokona Local Government Council of Nasarawa State, Hajiya Jamila Sarki, has advised newly sworn-in councilors of the council to shun corruption and other sharp practices.

Sarki gave the advice at the swearing-in of the new members the IMC of the council on Tuesday in Garaku.

The council boss urged the councilors to be transparent and accountable in the discharge of their duties at all times in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the area.

According to her, it is imperative for transparency in order to ensure prudent management of resources and to ensure that projects in the area were executed to better the lives of the people.

“I want you all to be prudent, transparent and accountable in the discharge of your duties in order to justify your appointment by Governor Tanko Al-Makura.

“Transparency and accountability should be your watch word because corruption and injustice, among other social evils, have affected our lives and the socio-economic development of the country negatively.

“Nigerians must do away with sentiments, corruption, injustice and abuse of office for the overall development of the country,” Sarki said.

The chairman also enjoined the IMC members to key in to the All Progressives Congress (APC) policies and programmes to improve the living standard of the people.

She also warned members of staff of the council to shun truancy and absenteeism from duty for optimal productivity of the overall development of the area.

Sarki solicited for support and cooperation from the people in order to succeed in the task ahead of it.

Besides, the chairman enjoined the people of the area to be law abiding, respect constituted authority and live in peace irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

Responding on behalf of others, Mr Osu Kaika-Umar, a Councillor member representing Agwada electoral ward, thanked Al-Makura for the appointment and promised to discharge their duties with the fear of God. (NAN)
