Okwe Obi, Abuja

Miffed by the omission of its logo from the ballot paper of Saturday’s National Assembly polls, All Grassroots Alliance (AGA) said it has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling for the cancellation of the election, particularly in the Niger State Zone B (East) Senatorial District.

AGA lamented that the omission disenfranchised its supporters which allegedly led to its defeat.

It’s National Chairman, Dr Olukayode Oshiariyo, who stated this yesterday while addressing journalists in Abuja, maintained that the hiccup was a breach of voter’s right as entrenched in the 1999 constitution of the country (as amended).

His words: “Our party, AGA forwarded a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for the omission of our party logo on ballot paper used to conduct election in Niger State Zone B (East) Senatorial District on February 23, 2019.

“The none insertion of AGA logo has disenfranchised our supporters and voters to vote for our candidate, Hadiza Mamuda Kuta, to represent the zone.

“It was a gross violation of voter’s rights and as entrenched in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“We humbly request that INEC should insert our logo and reschedule a fresh election in the zone,” he maintained.

For such a mistake not to repeat itself, he suggested that INEC should be unbundled to enable it perform credibly.
