A chieftain of Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Hon, Moshood Adegoke Salvador has promised to provide quality and affordable housing for Lagosians, if elected the next governor of the state.

Speaking with hundreds of party faithful who visited him to pledge support for his aspiration over the weekend, the former House of Representatives member lamented the suffering of millions of Lagosians due to inadequate housing in the state.

According to him, this was unfortunate as the 1999 Constitution posits that the welfare and security of the citizens shall be the priority of government. Salvador observed that successive governments except the Jakande administration did not live up to expectation in this regard.

Consequently, the LP chieftain, who is a major player in the property sector ,promised to bridge the gap by delivering one million housing units across the state within his first year in office.

Explaining how he intends to achieve this, he said his administration would construct 205units of flats across the 245 wards in Lagos State within the period.

The project, he said would be implemented by reputable contractors who would use their resources to actualize the programme.

The governorship hopeful added that his administration would also embark on opening up of new towns across the state as a way of decongesting Lagos. He further said the government would stand as guarantor for would-be beneficiaries of the housing project to enable them benefit from a mortgage scheme which will ultimately make them landlords. The former Lagos PDP Chairman said the idea would benefit no fewer than five million people in twelve months as most families consist mostly of five people.

He noted that this would be a complete departure from the 10, 000 housing units being delivered by the state Government annually.
