Ahead of the 2019 governorship election in Imo State, the Mbieri clan, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state, has said it is their turn to produce the next governor, from Owerri zone.

The Mbieri clan, which is one of largest clans in the South East, with seven autonomous communities, alleged they have been marginalised by successive governments in the state.

Chairman of the Central Planning Committee Dr. Goddy Nwakonobi, who stated this, yesterday, while briefing newsmen on the forthcoming Emume Mbieri scheduled for December 30, reiterated the people have been marginalised, “in spite of the immense contributions to the growth and development of the state and Mbaitoli council.”

He disclosed that the event would be deployed to galvanise the Mbieri people, and ensure that the desire of the people to produce a governor of Mbieri extraction is realised in 2019.

“The people of Mbieri clan in Mbaitoli council area of Imo state has contributed immensely to the development of the state, southeast and Nigeria in general.

“Although, the deputy governor of the state is from Mbieri and has been doing his best and it is our belief that he should become the next governor of the state in 2019, because it is the turn of Mbieri clan to produce the next governor from Owerri zone.

“We believe that it is only the emergence of an Imo governor from the area that would adequately address the continuous neglect of the area by successive administration since the creation of the state in 1976.”
