There was shootout between policemen and soldiers at the Maiduguri Government House Thursday afternoon when soldiers in a truck attempted to forcibly commandeer a share of rice being distributed to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) not living in camps.
Distribution of rice for the IDPs had started about a week ago under the watch of policemen in the Government House, who are to ensure that the food items are given only to people with the required documentation.
It has been alleged that soldiers had been attempting to claim some of the rice since the distribution began, without having the right to do so.
When policemen refused to allow them access to the items, a shootout ensued leaving at least one policeman injured.
As at the time of this report, policemen are holding two soldiers at the Government House.
