A 42-year-old man, Josiah Johnson has been s remanded in prison custody by an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate court for allegedly beating his wife to death.
Police prosecutor in charge of the case,,Sgt. Oriyomi Akinwale told the court that the suspect committed the offence on July 3 at Erio-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local government area of Ekiti State.
He alleged that the accused, on the said date, unlawfully caused the death of his wife, Mrs Juliana Johnson by beating her to death.
He alleged further that the husband wanted to have sexual intercourse with his wife, now deceased, but she declined for not wanting to be pregnant after seven children.
According to the Police prosecutor, the suspect beat the deceased with his fist and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her which subsequently led to her death.
Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code,Cap C 16,Laws of Ekiti State. 2012.
He informed the court that he had duplicated his case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution(DPP) for legal advice.
The plea of the accused was not taken as his counsel,Mr Tunde Falade sought for a short date of adjournment till the outcome of DPP advice.
Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade consequently remanded the accused in prison custody pending the legal advice from DPP’s office.
She adjourned the case to Sept.12 for further hearing.
