A 33-year-old man, Wasiu Banji was, on Tuesday, arraigned in an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’  Court over alleged assault.

Banji is facing a one-count charge of assault.

The Prosecutor, Insp.  Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that the accused committed the offence  on April 12 at about 7:30 p.m.  at Ikolaba , Aromole area of  Osogbo.

Abiodun said the accused, who was engaged in an argument  with the complainant,  Ogundare Daniel,  over money, resorted to self help  and  inflicted injuries on him  with a  cutlass.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code,  Cap 34,   Vol. 11, Laws of  Osun, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

The defence counsel, Mr. Promise Jones, prayed the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms.

The magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with  two sureties in like sum.

Aluko, who  said  the sureties must reside within the court’s  jurisdiction, also ordered them to show  evidence of tax payment as well as present  two passports size photographs  attached with an affidavit of means.

The case was adjourned till  May 30 for mention. (NAN)
