A 38-year-old man, Sunday Reuben, who allegedly defrauded one Daniel Umoke of N108, 000 was on Thursday charged in an Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun.
Reuben, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of obtaining money under false pretence.
The prosecutor, Mr. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 24, 2014 at Sango-Ota, Ogun.
Gbesi said that the accused collected some goods, worth N108, 000 from the complainant and promised to give him the money later but failed to do so.
”All efforts made by the complainant to get the accused pay the money proved abortive.
“The complainant reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested,’’ he said.
Gbesi said the offence contravened Section 421 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Name, granted the accused bail in the sum of N450, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means of livelihood.
Banwo, who also ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government, adjourned the case until Sept. 20 for mention. (NAN)
