A man has been arrested from east Delhi’s Jagatpuri after his wife complained to the police that he had allegedly been raping their 15-year-old daughter for more than a year.

DCP (east) Omvir Singh said the accused was arrested on Saturday evening and had been booked for rape and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police officers said that on Saturday, the girl’s mother noticed that some money had gone missing. When the mother confronted the girl, she broke down and said she had used it to buy medicine as she was feeling unwell.

Later on, she told her mother that she had been raped by her father for over a year. The mother took her to a nearby hospital for treatment and informed the police as well.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused used to work as a daily wage labourer along with his wife and 17-year-old son and stayed in Jagatpuri along with his family. The girl studies in Class IX while her brother works along with the parents.

During counselling, the survivor disclosed that over a year ago her father had come home drunk one day when she was alone and raped her. Her mother and brother had gone to meet relatives. The accused also threatened to kill her if she tells anyone about the incident. Since then, the accused had allegedly been assaulting the girl whenever he would find her alone in the house. The girl never confided in anybody as she feared that she would be thrown out of the house and nobody would believe her.

Police officers suspect that the girl had suffered some medical complications due to repeated sexual assault by her father and had taken the money to buy painkillers. The girl is being counselled by psychologists and also receiving treatment for the medical complications.

The accused is being interrogated to determine since when he had been assaulting his own daughter or if he had raped someone else as well. He was produced in court and has been sent to judicial custody. (TimesofIndia)
