A man identified as Anayochukwu Nwonyi has allegedly raped a 25-year-old lady, Miss Chidimma Nwebor, to death at Okoffia in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Sunday Sun gathered that the incident happened in the morning of Sunday, October 29, 2022, when the deceased, a native of Okarelu village, left her home with a wheelbarrow for a nearby bush in search of firewood.
But unfortunately, she encountered Nwonyi whom after satisfying his sexual desire with the lady, allegedly strangled her and buried her body inside a shallow grave in the same bush.
The body was exhumed the following day, after the suspect was apprehended.
A resident of the area, Christopher Mbe told Sunday Sun that on that day, the village was thrown into panic in the evening period when the deceased could not return home.
Consequently, the people of the area dispatched a search party who combed everywhere, but only found her wheelbarrow, water bottle and foot wears in the night.
According to Mbe, they retired home and were going into the forests the following morning, when suddenly the suspect was sighted from afar by some youths who gave him a hot chase and caught him.
Another resident alleged that after the suspect had experienced severe beatings from the men, he admitted being responsible for the act and quietly led them to the shallow grave where he skillfully removed Chidimma’s body.
She claimed that Nwonyi who hails from the neighbouring Amudo community had ran away from his home because of some atrocities, which he allegedly committed, but nobody knew that he was hiding in the forest in Okoffia until after the dastard incident.
