The Maritime Police Command, MPC, recently restored the joy of the owner of a car stolen in Germany, which was intercepted in February 2017.

The car, a grey 2015 Volkswagen Golf 7 Series with chassis No. WVNZZZAUZFP587391, was stolen on September 24, 2016 in Germany and shipped to Nigeria.

A reliable source at the Maritime Police Command, who wished not to be identified as he was not authorised to speak on the matter, to Sunday Sun that operatives of the Maritime Police Command discovered the car in the course of interrogating some suspects for other maritime crimes. The suspects were later charged to court.

Sunday Sun further learnt that the recovered car would be returned to Germany through the Nigeria office of the International Police Organisation, INTERPOL. The return of the vehicle was initially hampered by several court injunctions.

“After the exchange of correspondences between the MPC and Interpol, which takes charge of issues connecting two countries or more, the MPC is now set to move the Golf 7 car said to be valued at N7 million to Interpol, which, according to the law of establishment, has the powers to invite the suspect, (name withheld by Sunday Sun), who had since been granted bail by court and has continued to enjoy immunity from police arrest based on the separate case charged to court by MPC, details of which cannot be disclosed for now,” the source said.
