From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Mr Peter Obi has revealed that he would work closely with the state governors to tackle the insecurity challenges and other problems confronting the nation.

Obi who stated this on Thursday during a brief town hall meeting with stakeholders in Imo State also noted that his commitment to serve Nigeria is “total”, assuring that all his manifestos would be actualised.”

We are committed to changing this country, we’re committed to a new Nigeria, we must be able to make this place work for everybody, the suffering, and insecurity must come to an end, it can not continue, that commitment is total,” he said.

“I’m assuring we would be held responsible for this change; the country is so blessed but all we lack is leadership, and consistency, we are having this town hall meeting to appeal to all of you to please know that our commitment is total and in our manifesto we said we would secure this country,” he said.

“We would make sure the country operates with the rule of law, we’re going to move the country from consumption to production, I’ve said that before, Imo State alone is supposed to be a place where people would say it is fantastic, you have oil, gas and access to the sea,” Obi said.

He added: “I will partner with all the state governors as we have been going around the states, our commitment is total, and you will see it happen in Nigeria by the time you go there on 25th vote for LP and stay there.

“At least all is clear you’ve tried the PDP, that umbrella is licking, you tried the broom it resulted into poverty, now it’s time to vote for a human being “Mama, Papa, Picking”. You can’t go wrong, that symbol is unique, we want to care for human beings, we don’t want any of the signs of the broom, we want to use the broom to sweep and we have an umbrella to protect us from rain, now is the time to vote for human beings,” he said.

Disclosing his plans for the youths and women if he assumes office, Obi said: “And for the youths; this is your government, women this is your government, I will assure you, we must go for affirmative action, it must have the place of women and youths, we know we have the “Not too young to run law”, we’re going to change it to have a percentage of our various office, that will be occupied by women and youths, if we don’t do it I’m sure the women won’t see any chance, so we want to enshrine it in the law and that I must fight for.”

The LP presidential candidate who almost came into the State unannounced for the town hall meeting caught the attention of the traders from Alaba and Relief markets in Owerri where he passed to his destination.

Almost all the traders left their trades to follow Obi’s convoy, chanting and singing “Obi is our president”.
