Wahl Clippers Corporation USA has rewarded winners of Lagos State Barbers, Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association (LABHCA) competition held recently at Hi-Tech Field, Orisunmbare, Alimosho, Lagos.

The 10 finalists that made it to the grand finale were judged based on their professionalism, poise, handling of tool, creativity and finishing. The winner and runners-up were rewarded with cash prizes, Wahl clippers and other consolation prizes.

Staged in an open field, each barber exhibited dexterity at maneuvering the clipper, thrilling the public and judges to a spectacular face-off. The grand finale certainly was a true test of creativity as each contestant was required to reproduce two different looks; the first was a classic hair cut while the second entailed more at reproducing an avant garde haircut that required them carving out the words ‘Wahl Clipper’ on the heads of their models.

At the event, chairman, J. Green Mbadiwe & Sons, Chief Victor Mbadiwe, encouraged barbers to be proud of their profession because it is an important skill that is relevant towards building the economy of the country, most especially, in this harsh economic time.

“I want you to be proud of your profession because your work is very important.  Anyone who wants to look good comes to you irrespective of their profession, be it the president or a senator, they all need the services of a barber. The head is the most important part of the body, and before you can appreciate the beauty and style of a person, you start from the head. So, never look down on yourself. This competition is what you should be proud of. This is an art,” he said.

Known for its premium quality, Wahl Clipper, which Mbadiwe introduced into the Nigerian market 35 years ago, has supported the barbers association in ensuring that barbers are celebrated as well as rendering financial support to ease their ways of doing business.
