Silverbird Group’s Vice President, Guy Murray Bruce, has declared that the 30th anniversary of Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) will be explosive!
He made the declaration during the unveiling of activities marking the anniversary of the pageant in Lagos during the week. “We have evolved over the years and there was a gap last year, so we want to make sure that this edition is special because it is the 30th anniversary of MBGN.
“It will be an elaborate ceremony. It will be an epoch making one as it rides on a hair raising sub-theme ‘Gender Based Violence – The plight of the Nigerian Woman’ – an addition to the pageant’s main theme: ‘The True Essence of Beauty… Timeless’. We are calling on corporate organisations and the media to be a part of the show as sponsors and partners,” he said.
Outgoing MBGN, Unoaku Anyadike also made a passionate appeal to government at all levels to take the fight against gender-based violence more seriously, stating that it is sobering to realise that nearly 50 per cent of all sexual assaults worldwide are targeted at girls 15 years or younger.
The winner of the anniversary competition, which holds on September 15 at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, will move on to represent Nigeria at the Miss World pageant taking place in Sanya, China on November 18, 2017 while the first runner up will represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant.
Meanwhile, screenings have been scheduled to hold on August 8 in Enugu, August 10 in Port Harcourt, August 12 in Abuja while the final screening to select the 35 contestants holds on August 14 at Best Western Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
