President of Blue Diamond Logistics and Founder, Good Governance Initiative (GGI), Festus Mbisiogu, has backed a recent call by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) that the power sector privatisation should be reversed.

Speaking at the 12th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the NLC, in Abuja, last Tuesday, NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, said since the privatisation of electricity distribution, Nigerians are yet to see the fulfilment of promises of efficient service delivery. Instead, the electricity situation has gone worse with chronic failures by DISCOs to supply prepaid metres, exploitation of Nigerians through estimated billings and reluctance to attend to basic complaints.

“Even with N39 billion bailout funds from government, the supposed private entrepreneurs have failed to turn anything around except, maybe, their pockets, unfortunately, at the expense of Nigerians. This must stop,” Wabba was quoted to have said.

In a statement, in Lagos, yesterday, Mbisiogu expressed happiness that more vocal groups, like the NLC, are now joining the cause he has been fighting, for years.

He said: “I welcome the call by Labour and I see it as one of the ways to resolve the logjam we have been experiencing in our power sector, which has turned into a nightmare.”
