The National Association of Government General and Dental Medical Practitioners (NAGGMDP), in Rivers State, has commended and appreciated Governor Nyesom Wike, for granting approval for the implementation of the revised consolidated medical scale for doctors.

The group, which is an affiliate of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has also hailed Governor Wike for the establishment of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, by signing a bill into law

A joint statement issued by the NMA and NAGGMDP, Rivers State chapters, and signed by the NMA State Chairman, Dr.  Datonye Alasia, expressed support for Wike-led administration in improving the health sector.

Dr.  Alasia stated that NMA affiliate had never accused the governor of abandoning the State health sector as reported in some quarters,  adding that  NAGGMDP was committed to promoting the health sector.

He said: “We express our support for the laudable health programmes of the administration as we look forward to the resolution of key issues related to our land and housing scheme.

“The NAGGMDP in Rivers State, wish to set the records straight by stating that at no time did the Association and its leadership claim that the Health Sector in the State, has been abandoned by His Excellency Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON.

“The NAGGMDP in Rivers State, is committed to promoting effective healthcare delivery in the State and will support all laudable programmes of the Government in this regard. We are confident and believe that all outstanding issues will be resolved”,  Dr.  Alasia stated.

The NMA chairman further expressed: “The Nigerian Medical Association Rivers state expresses appreciation and commends His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, for signing the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital Bill into law.

“This signing of the bill has given life to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital a mission which the NMA Rivers State, has promoted and advocated for due to the immense benefits it will bring in the training of medical students of the College of Medicine Rivers State University and other health workers; training of specialist medical manpower and strengthening of the Residency programme, provision of tertiary hospital services to Rivers State citizens, as well as the promotion of health research.

“The establishment of the Teaching Hospital is the fulfillment of a promise made by His Excellency, who has shown a passion for improving healthcare delivery in the State.

The NMA Rivers State will do its utmost best to support the Government in ensuring that the Hospital delivers quality services and attains the mandate for which it was set up. We look forward to the fulfillment of other promises made by His Excellency as we work together in promoting healthcare delivery in the State”,  Dr.  Alasia expressed.
