Choir of Excellence of the Methodist Church of the Trinity, Tinubu Lagos (MCTT), celebrated its 103rd anniversary recently.
The commemoration started with a church service and excellent renditions, hymns, and praises by the Choir in appreciation of God’s love and protection over the years.
According to the Chairman of the anniversary planning committee, Dr. Faye Iketubosin, the theme of this year’s choir festival: ‘Glory and Strength Belong to God’ could not have been better chosen as it emphasized total dependence on God.
This, he said, explained why members had to rehearse diligently for several months culminating in classical and cultural renditions comprising two festival anthems: ‘Gloria in Excelsis’ by Wolfang Amadeus Mozart and ‘Ascribe unto the Lord’ By Samuel Sebastian Wesley with other hymns and chants as well.
Rev Dr. Oyeyemi Bamidele Sodipo, in his homily, attributed the survival of the Choir festival since 1919 to the exclusive preserve of God almighty and prayed for further strength for the members, organizing committee, friends and well-wishers of the church.
In the same vein, the choir master, Brig Gen Charles Adisa Bossman said the anniversary festival was in keeping with tradition since 1919, noting that many people had come and gone.
“It is a big thing for us, just like St. Paul’s choir in London, we rehearsed for more than eight months. We are glad to have recorded success. This will keep us improving to the accepted world-class standard and within ourselves too,” he said.
The highlight of the event was the posthumous award of excellence given to Dr. Tosin Ajayi, the Managing Director of First Foundation Medical Engineering Company, who died on April 26, 2020, at St Nicholas Hospital, Lagos, after battling with a kidney problem, in recognition of his contributions to the Nigerian healthcare industry.
Receiving the award on behalf of the family, the daughters of the deceased, Tomisin and Tiffany Ajayi thanked the organizers for deeming it fit to honour their father for his contribution to the development of healthcare system in Nigeria.
