DISTURBED by the worsening crisis in the Niger Delta, key traditional rulers in the region under the umbrella of South-South Monarchs Forum, at the weekend, resolved to convene a security summit.

The summit, billed for three days, is expected to produce a blueprint on ways of ending current attacks on oil installations by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and few other militant groups. It is not clear if the monarchs are working in liaison with the Federal Government.

The traditional rulers, in a statement by Dr. Edmund Daukoru – Mingi XII Amanyanabo of Nembe Kingdom, who is the chairman of the forum, said the summit would find solution to the crisis in the region.

It explained that the Niger Delta Traditional Rulers Security Summit is a fallout of the emergency meeting held recently by the forum in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where they resolved, as a matter of urgency, to explore strategic frameworks and solicit interventional interface on matters relating to broader aspects of security in the region on a collective national platform.

The new summit, according to the forum, will hold between June 27 and 29 at Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
