Jesus walks, drops crutches in Man City

Manchester City have been handed a major injury boost after striker Gabriel Jesus was spotted walking without the aid of crutches.

Jesus suffered a fractured metatarsal during City’s win at Bournemouth on February 13, and the striker – who had scored three goals in five games – has not played since.

It is the first time Jesus has been seen without a cast or crutches since his fracture, having reportedly visited City’s training complex for five hours beforehand.

However he was spotted on Monday – his 20th birthday – returning to his flat in Manchester walking unaided.

He was wished a happy birthday by club and international team mate Fernandinho, who posted a picture of himself with Jesus to social media, captioned: ‘We wish to our little brother a happy birthday. God bless you always bro!’

The striker also took to Instagram with a picture of him pointing to a 20mph speed limit sign – a fun reminder of his new age.

Jesus had made a brilliant start to life in English football after joining City from Brazilian side Palmeiras on January 1, and his manager, Pep Guardiola, has previously spoken of his hope that the forward will be able to play again this season.

On Friday, ahead of City’s 2-2 draw at Arsenal, Guardiola said: ‘The crutches are gone. He has started to walk and hopefully he can come back to the pitches and start to run.

‘Hopefully he can help us in the last games of the season and come back for us in the pre-season.’
