A suspected case of monkey pox has been recorded in Gboko West area of Benue State.

The victim, a young lady of about 20 years old (names withheld) according to sources, was said to have complained of fever a few days ago but later started having rashes with purse on her face which were also spreading fast to other parts of her body.

Our sources, who disclosed that the victim had been in excruciating pains and without medication since the monkey pox presentation, lamented what would be the fate of family members who had been taking care of her and by so doing, had been in contact with her body fluid.

The situation, according to sources, is already causing fears among Benue residents who called on the government to take a proactive action to curb the spread of the virus in the state.

However, when contacted, Director, Public Health in the state Ministry of Health and Human Services, Dr. Terna Kur said the Ministry had also heard the rumor and had already dispatched personnel to the area to trace the victim.

He assured that by the end of Wednesday, the Ministry would have been able to ascertain whether it was actually a case of monkey pox or not.
