It was a hectic day for motorists, travellers and commuters on the popular Lekki/Epe Expressway as floods swamped the major thoroughfare.

The most affected areas were the Lakowe, Ahoyaya, and the Ibeju Lekki communities, causing untold harship to residents of these areas.

Daily Sun observed that the entire stretch of the dual carriage way was submerged in flood water, causing major difficulties in the movement of vehicles.

Residents and motorists who spoke with Daily attributed the development to the neglect of a portion of the expressway following the cancellation of the concession ‎arrangement with the then contractor, Lekki Concessing Company by the state government.

A community leader, Alhaji Ayuba, who spoke on behalf of one of the affected communities, appealed to state governor Akinwunmi Ambode to urgently come to their aid.

“We are really sufferring here. Besides the problem of floods, which has affected us as residents, the activities of trucks conveying sand is also another major problem.

“It’s time that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode mobilise ‎contractors to the site to do the necessary reconstruction work,” Ayuba said.
