The Bassa community in Nasarawa/Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has raised the alarm that there is a grand plan to exterminate them from their God-given land.
National Secretary, Bassa Cultural and Development Union, Mr. Gwatana Dogwo, who addressed the media in Lafia, capital of Nasarawa state, yesterday, lamented that the state, as well as the Federal Government, and security agencies, have abandoned them to their fate, while militants ferociously attack them with a view to wiping them out from their ancestral home.
“The renewed attacks are caused by the Egbura people who attacked a Bassa settlement at Kpanche in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State on April 22, 2018. Many Bassa were killed in the process.
“Thereafter, the Egbura armed bandits and mercenaries crossed over and kidnapped two Bassa lads of the same parent at Sogene, near Umaisha.
“The dastardly act was followed immediately by burning of Bassa houses and killing of anyone in sight.
“The Egbura antics have been to seek government’s support after causing every trouble.”
