Union Bank Men’s Hockey team on Thursday , departed the shores of Nigeria for Accra, Ghana on a training tour.
The delegation, made up of eighteen players and five-officials, made the trip.
The Tunde Odedokun – coached team is expected to play two friendly games against Bank of Ghana (Exchequers Hockey club) and Trustee Hockey club at the Accra Sports Stadium.
According to Odedokun, the two games in Accra, today and April 23, 2017, would be used as a test-run for the forth coming National Hockey Super league billed for July this year.
“We   were   runners   up   in   the   Super   League   last   year,   but  we  want  to  be Champions this year hence we are taking our preparations serious.
“We are very grateful to the Union Bank Management for giving the Hockey team both moral and financial support,” said Odedokun who applauded his team for winning the maiden National 5-A-side Hockey tournament in Port Harcourt last weekend. In   the   tournament   played   at   the   General   Yakubu   Gowon   Stadium,   Port Harcourt, Union Bank won the men’s category, while Young Steeds of Ilorin  and Rivers United emerged first and second runners up respectively .
Rivers Queens won in the women’s category on 6 points as Ocean Queens of Bayelsa were runners up.
