From Benjamin Babine, Abuja

Following the decision of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) to appoint a Public Trustee to run the affairs of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), the leadership of the union has countered the decision saying that it is against judicial proceedings.

In a press conference over the weekend, the unions leadership explained that the decision is again judicial proceedings because the matter has since been appealed by the union. It further called on the President of the NICN to critically analyse and review the appointment.

Speaking on behalf of the union, the chairman of NCSU Kano Chapter, Com. Kabiru Inuwa said: “The Union‘s attention has been drawn by the appointment of Public Trustee by the National industriai Court on the Judgement of Suit N0. NICN/ABJ/31/2016. The Union wishes to state categorically that it has since appealed the judgment and ruling at the Fedral Appeal Court on appeal number CA/A/ 1089/2019.

“We sincerely feel it is not within judicial proceeding to appoint a trustee to the Union when the appeal process is still pending at the Appeal Court. We are appealing to the Honorable President of the National Industrial Court to critically look at the facts of the matter and review this appointment in the interest of justice At the same time, we as a Union would continue to respect the court, and we have resolved to remain peaceful and law-abiding.”

The President of NICN, Hon. Justice Benedict Kanyip, had in a letter dated 29th December, 2020, appointed as Public Trustee, Mr Monday Ubani, of Ubani & Co and was billed to resume on Thursday, 21st January, 2021.
