From Taiwo Amodu, Abuja

Ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Monday, National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, has said the statutory organ of the party would take a position on the three months tenure given the new National Chairman, Senator Ali  Modu Sheriff.

At the end of a meeting last week between the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Working Committee (NWC) at the instance of the PDP Governors’ Forum and National Assembly caucus, Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the forum, Dr Segun Mimiko, told newsmen that Sheriff  will be allowed to run the party for three months after which a national convention to produce new national officers would be conducted.

Speaking with newsmen yesterday in Abuja, Prof. Oladipo expressed confidence that the NEC would ratify the tenure.

He said:”All is now well with our Party and all hands are on  deck to see that our party regains its lost glory. Now we have a substantive National Chairman in place from the North-East to complete the tenure of Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu. Though some aggrieved members of the party kicked against his emergence,I can say categorically that through the help of the various statutory organs of the party, we have been able to overcome the challenge. The various organs will be meeting from this Sunday and Monday,  the National  Executive Committee  will meet  to take a definite stand on the tenure issue”.

He admonished those still kicking against Sheriff’s emergence to shelve their agitation in the larger interest of the main  opposition party.

“The new chairman means well for the party and very soon , the fortunes of the party would improve under the new leadership. All he  needs is our support, I mean the entire members of the PDP nationwide,we should give him the chance to prove his stuff,” he said.

He further  charged party members to remain united and continue to pay the role of constructive and responsible opposition despite all odds.
