Lawmaker representing Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency, Oyo State in the National Assembly, Olatoye Temitope Sugar, has identified the continued neglect of the less privileged as the major cause of violence in Nigeria. The All Progressives Congress (APC) member made this observation at the first town hall meeting at Kolapo Ishola Estate, Ibadan
He said to ensure peace and to alleviate the suffering of the less privileged in his constituency, his legislative policy thrust was anchored on taking care of the “main street”, adding that this brought about a paradigm shift in qualitative representation in the state. He defined “main street” to include; the aged, children, pensioners, petty traders, students, unemployed, physically challenged, homeless and destitute:
“I have been able to provide infrastructural facilities like good roads and portable water to many communities, electric transformers to communities that have been put in needless darkness for decades, free mobile health services for basic health care and surgeries covering hernia, cataract, fibroid, and donation of health support facilities to the Oyo State Maternity Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan.
“I have also been involved in the annual empowerment of people with disabilities and rehabilitation of schools in several communities, and award of scholarships to indigent students, building and provision of equipment facilities for the state police command and divisional commands.”
