An officer of Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Oluwaseun Hunsu, on Tuesday evening died, while four other persons  sustained injuries in an accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hunsu, who served at Badagry office of the corps, and seven others boarded the commercial bus around 7:00p.m at Badagry Roundabout after closing from work.
A source told NAN that the driver of the Mazda commercial bus with registration number LSD 470YC was speeding and did not notice a Man Diesel Tipper that was parked on the expressway.
“Unfortunately, before he could apply brakes, the bus had collided with the tipper which resulted to the fatal accident.
“The LNSC officer who was sitting in the front died instantly, while four other passengers sustained varying degrees of injury,” he said.
Confirming the accident, Mr Sulaiman Taiwo, Unit Commander, Badagry Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said that the commercial bus driver was speeding.
“The driver of the commercial bus did not notice the parked sand tipper on the expressway because it was dark.
“He was coming with full speed and collided with the tipper.
“On the other side, the driver of the tipper did not put safety signs on the way to indicate that his tipper was faulty.
“We have always warned our drivers against dangerous driving on the highway.
“The accident was caused by high speed, we got to the site of the accident on time but unfortunately we lost one person.
“We have deposited the remains of the LNSC officer at General Hospital in Badagry, while the injured are being attended to in the same hospital,” he said.
Dr Olatunde Bakare, the Medical Director of the hospital, said that five persons were brought to the emergency section on Tuesday night.
According to the medical director, one person was brought in dead while four sustained injuries.
“The dead one has been deposited in the mortuary while the four injured are responding to treatment.
“Our people should drive carefully on the expressway;  we appealed to government to construct the road for us, the road should not become death trap for us.
“There is no day that they will not bring to the hospital people that sustained injury due to accident; enough is enough,” he said.
NAN reports that two brothers were on June 22 killed in a fatal accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The brothers were returning from Alaba market with six 30-litre jerry cans of petrol when the accident happened.
A family source said, ”The two of them, of the same father, were burnt beyond recognition by fire as a result of petrol in their car”. (NAN)
