The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered relief materials consisting of food and none food items to hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)  from the recent crises in Numan and Dong both in Adamawa State.

Flagging-off the distribution exercise, at the  weekend, Head of Operations, NEMA Gombe Office, Hajiya Amina Ahman, said the relief materials was meant for IDPs from the Numan crisis who currently taking refuge in three local government areas in Gombe State.

Speaking on behalf of DG NEMA, Engr. Yunusa Mustapha Maihaja, said the exercise was as a result of recommendations from the Gombe field office after having carried out a needs assessment at the camps hosting the IDPs.

While consoling with families of those that lost their loved ones, Maihaja urged the IDPs to make good use of the items delivered.

The relief materials were simultaneously distributed at four different IDP camps located in Cham, Akko, Nono and Kumo cutting across three local government areas namely, Akko,  Balanga and Yamaltu/Deba.

Receiving the relief materials on behalf of the IDPs, taking refuge at the Government Junior Secondary School, Cham, paramount ruler of the area, the Nidu Gra, James Chachis, expressed gratitude to NEMA for bringing relief to the displaced persons.

He was represented at the event by the Wazirin Cham, K. K Cham.

Investigations by Daily Sun revealed that a 9-month-old baby died at the camp while two women delivered with one of the nursing mothers currently convalescing at cottage hospital in Cham.

Also, 1, 520 IDPs including both Fulani and Bachama ethnic groups are now taking refuge at the school forced to close in order to accommodate the displaced persons.

Items distributed across the four camps include,  1, 626 bags 25kg of maize, 300 bags 300 bags 50kg of garri, 100 bags of beans and 300 bags 50kg of rice.

Other items include,  200 pieces each of men, women and children wears, 100 pieces of guinea brocade, 800 pieces of wax print and 10 cartons of Cerelac among others.
